Supplier Development Engineer


Location: Industrial Park Ghimbav, Brasov (Romania)

Position summary:

The Supplier Development Engineer will be engaged in multiple supplier development projects that are focused on reducing risk of poor quality or late delivery to production line and to customers due to supplier performance. The SDE is responsible for overall quality and supplier development.


Essential functions:


Safety (EHS)

  • Represent our Safety Culture & Environmental policy when interacting with internal and external partners.


Quality

  • Be an Expert on Supplier Quality Tools – Lead/Assist with role out, training and implementation of Supplier Quality tools at suppliers’ site
  • Develop and execute supplier development plans in the supply chain which requires engaging and convincing the supplier to take appropriate continuous improvement actions
  • Responsible to drive our suppliers towards zero defects
  • Develops partner-style relationships with suppliers and up-front agreements on supplier commitments, projects, timing and measurement of results. Manages all phases of the project life-cycle, from qualifications of suppliers to tracking frequent status reports of supplier improvement projects
  • Utilize standard Vestas aircoil processes and procedures to audit and approve new suppliers
  • Secures PPAP activities as part of NPI Process or when changing from one supplier to another are performed as per requirement
  • Drive improvements via systematic problem solving and process improvements utilizing Lean
  • methodologies, supplier scorecards and supplier audits
  • Keep us with current and developing manufacturing and engineering trends that concerns product quality.


Delivery (D)

  • Ensure that daily tasks are met without delay
  • Provide leadership during investigations of major problems and or special project focusing on developing working relationships with supplier in the supply chain with regard to product development and procurement of parts
  • Engage in NPI processes to define process parameters and criteria to ensure supplier process capability is effective to meet product and process requirements
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership to sourcing and development of suppliers with respect to
    technology, performance, quality, cost, logistics and delivery.

Cost

  • Negotiate contracts, conditions and prices
  • Source for new suppliers and achieve goals within budget
  • Find solutions for efficiency improvements for the daily engagement with suppliers
  • Ensure cost saving by always searching for lowest cost (with total cost view in mind)
  •  Responsible for developing and implementing Flow to line/ equipment supply via pull systems (Just In Time, Kanban systems, supermarket planning CFM principles)
  • Logistics, lay-out & flow is continuously improved to reduce waste and time by use of e.g. CFM/VSM/5S
  • Conduct benchmarking studies to determine best practices/ designs and future trends
  • Exploit & harvest opportunities of bringing our suppliers closer to our designers and technical people
  • Responsible for always up to date supplier development plans on short, medium and long term.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/ Materials/ Supply Chain/ Management/ Business or Technical
  • Min. 5 years of experience in Manufacturing/ assembly operations, Quality, Engineering (Design or
    Manufacturing) or materials/ procurement
  • Preferably 5 years of experience in an industrial working environment as Supplier Development Engineer
  • Experience with ISO standards and Supplier Quality Auditing
  • Certified Lean Expert or Black Belt preferred
  • Certified Lead Auditor – preferred
  • Additional experience or training in APQP, FMEA, RCCA is preferred
  • Strong problem-solving
  • Ability to read, write and speak English at least at medium level
  • Experience of reading technical documentations
  • High sense of responsibility and self-motivation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task, handle projects and meet projects deadlines
  • High user level knowledge in Microsoft Office – mainly Excel and with an ERP system, any (we use AX).


Travel requirements

  • A minimum of travel can be expected
  • Supplier meetings and audits.
